A Dream in Fiji

A sandbar in the middle of the ocean, participating in a kava ceremony, and eating more seafood than I thought I could handle, Fiji was beyond a dream!
I will say, the 11 hour flight from LAX was a little long, but planning it right with an overnight flight with a little melatonin made it possible. Preston even slept most of the time! Fiji Airways was an exceptional airline and the food was actually really good. Each seat was comfortable - even for those of us in economy!
The first part of our trip we decided to stay in Nadi, the main city on the main island of Fiji to experience a bit of the culture before heading to our more resort location. We stayed at the Sheraton Resort and it was breathtaking. We were greeted with the beating of drums and enjoyed fresh fruit and coffee at the breakfast buffet.
From Nadi, we took an all day excursion that I still dream about. We were on a small boat with about 20 people with drinks and lunch provided. We enjoyed a beautiful boat ride with several snorkeling spots but the most amazing spot was a sandbar in the middle of the ocean. It was UNREAL! It's still hard to believe I was there. We continued to explore several islands, including where Cast Away and Survivor were filmed. WILSON!!!!!!!
The next day, we explored Nadi and met a local man who gave us a tour and a traditional Kava ceremony. To be honest, I was a little nervous but it turned into an amazing experience. We showed us a great place for lunch and took us to the local shops. I know what you're thinking - did he ask for money at the end. And the answer is no - he gave us hugs and said that he hoped to see us again!
Then it was time to go to the Fiji Marriott - this resort is about an hour from Nadi but well worth the drive. When we approached the resort, we saw huts and trees and then the gorgeous ocean with overwater bungalows. We booked an oceanfront villa, as bungalows were for adults only, but it was perfect! The room was stunning, opened up to the ocean with a gorgeous deck and right up to a lagoon that Preston played in. It was simply perfect.
The Marriott had an all-inclusive package that we got that included drinks and food, and a kids club that Preston loved going to. I took advantage of the spa and have a wonderful massage and enjoyed the afternoon in luxury!
The best memories - the sandbar, walking around Cast Away and Survivor islands, Kava ceremony, and simply relaxing at the Marriott. Fiji is somewhere I will 100% be returning to!
